China Mobile Mulls Nationwide FTTx Network in 2009
November 21, 2008
China Mobile has begun FTTx (Fiber-To-The-x) broadband network trials in Jiangsu Province and Guangdong Province and is mulling the deployment of a nationwide FTTx network in 2009, Interfax China reported on November 13. However, the actual schedule of China Mobile's nationwide FTTx network deployment is contingent on the results of the present trials.

Currently FiberHome Telecommunication Technologies is undertaking the construction of China Mobile's FTTx network in five Jiangsu cities, including Suzhou. China Mobile will employ EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) technology, which enables a bandwidth of 1Gbps, for its FTTx network. Initially the trials will mainly target the commercial users with high ARPUs (Average Revenue Per User).
